Waiting for the game…. GO CANADA!!! (and Shoe Love)

Anxiously waiting for the big game to start… I see gold in our future
Nothing much to report in my neck of the woods. I’ve been spending some quality time with my massage therapist and my new and totally awesome chiropractor. Now I have been to the chiropractor before, but this new guy is fabulous. After a quick but thorough exam he proceeded to tell me I needed a complete overhaul. Some bones in both of my feet, hips, shoulders, ribs and neck were not moving. Not to mention my knee issues and low back problems. He quickly went to work on my feet and ankles. The sound reminded me of popcorn popping or maybe Rice Krispies…. snap, crackle, pop. There wasn’t just one but a series of quite a few snaps and pops. He worked his way up to my neck. I was a little apprehensive about this one and have never wanted my neck adjusted but I gave in and am glad I did, although I have to say the cracking sound still freaks me out.
One of the test he did before starting was a balance test and I failed miserably. I have never had a balance issue but did notice when using my Wii Fit over the last few months that I couldn’t balance on either leg. When I was done, I could balance on both no problem. He explained why, but I won’t go into that. The other thing I could do after was walk down stairs. This may seem like a small thing but I was AMAZED!!!
Of course he gave me grief about wearing heels but realized that wasn’t going to change, so I guess I just have to work a little harder to keep things in the right place.
On that note I wanted to share these babies that I bought yesterday. I’m sure the chiropractor will not be impressed, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.

IT’S ALL GREEK TO ME

Friday night was supposed to be dinner and a movie with DBF however, it turned out to be just dinner.  By the time we were done with supper it was too late to make it to the show.  There aren’t a whole lot of restaurant choices in Dartmouth unless you want to try one of the chain restaurants like Montana's or Jack Astors and they aren’t really my thing.

I was excited when It’s All Greek To Me opened in Russell Lake last fall since Greek food is one of my favorites. We tried once to go but it was too busy so we made reservations this time.

On the menu for me

  • Spanikopita
  • Chicken Souvlaki with rice, roasted potatoes, Greek salad and Tzatziki on the side.
  • Dessert was Baklava

The spanikopita were fairly large, but didn’t have much flavor.  I think I detected a  hint of cinnamon or nutmeg in a couple of bites but for the most part bland.  Which is pretty much the same for the rest of the meal…. bland.  The rice was just plain white rice that seemed to be tossed/coated with oil.  I think the roasted potatoes were steamed and then put under the broiler as they were burnt on the edges.  Far from “roasted”.  I was even unimpressed with the tzatziki, again no flavor.  So after all that I still had high hopes for dessert.  I mean Baklava at a Greek restaurant I thought it had to be good.  Not so much.  It was OK, but that’s it just OK.

On the menu for DBF

  • Souzoukakia Saganaki – Seasoned beef patties in a spicy tomato sauce topped with feta.
  • 12 oz striploin served with the same roasted potatoes and rice

He said the Souzoukakia was really good.  The sauce was a light tomato sauce that wasn’t too spicy.  He wasn’t overly impressed with the steak though and said we do a better job at home.

I wish I would have taken pictures but of course I didn’t have a camera with me and it was really dark in there so I don’t think they would have been very good anyway.

Maybe it was just an off night for them but I don’t think I will be going back any time soon.

SICK DAY

So I figured since I was home from work today I could at least post something here.

Valentines Day was pretty uneventful around here.  I’m not a big Valentines Day girl and don’t really enjoy going out to overpriced, overcrowded restaurants on that day, so DBF and I will be celebrating this week with dinner and a movie.  DBF didn’t forget about me though, he came home with these

I’ve told him not to spend the money but he knows I love flowers so he doesn’t listen to me, and Valentines Day isn’t the only time he brings me flowers so it’s all good.

In the food department nothing much going on there.  I did make seafood chowder or as some like to say chowdah for the first time in my life for DBF on Valentines Day.  He loves it, but I don’t enjoy seafood that much and I can’t have milk/cream, so I have never tried it.  Apparently I did an awesome job, yay me!!  Although I think I will have to make it more often now.

I also made some Cajun chicken quesadillas not long ago. I love them and eat them quite often but DBF has never tried them… He has led a very sheltered life when it comes to food, not that Quesadillas are that exotic.  Anyway he loved them too, and couldn’t understand why he had never tried them before.  Now I put more cheese and a few  less veggies on his but he like it so that means there is another meal we will both eat and it saves me from having to cook two different meals.  I also topped mine with that yummy Liberte Plain Greek Yogurt instead.

Now I wasn’t lucky enough to get my hands on one of the coveted Amazing Grass shakers but I did find a cute pink one at GNC.  So now I can take my smoothies and run out the door.

Sorry this post was so long… it was supposed to be short and sweet.

QUINOA LOVE IT OR HATE IT PART 2 & AG WHEAT GRASS

After seeing Lynn's post about Chocolate Quinoa I knew I couldn’t give up on Quinoa yet.  Before trying the chocolate version I wanted give just plain old quinoa a try.  My previous attempts were less than stellar.  I thought maybe it was the quinoa itself that might have been the problem.  I bought it at the bulk barn the first couple of times, so this time I picked up some Bob’s Red Mill.  I was brave and cooked it with just water and voila… success!!  The Bob’s Red Mill cooked the way the directions said it would, the texture was much better, and didn’t taste “off” like the others.  So I figure it can only improve from here especially after adding chocolate.  I mean really if something doesn’t taste good with chocolate then  let’s face it there’s just no hope.

Bob's Quinoa

Since I am running low on my Chocolate Amazing Grass, I decided to be brave… suck it up.. and break open the Amazing Grass Wheatgrass that’s been taunting me every time I open my cupboard.  I’ve had the unopened container in my cupboard for a few months now but quite frankly I was scared to open it.  I really, really didn’t think I would like the taste.  I guess I figured if I let it sit on the shelf long enough it would magically change  and taste like Lindt Dark Chocolate… if only!!  So what was the verdict, well I would like to say it was Great!! but I can’t go quite that far.   It really isn’t bad at all.  I wasn’t fond of the smell but it didn’t taste bad.  I mixed it with Almond Breeze and chugged it down.  If it was mixed in with a smoothie or green monster you would never know it was there.

What new thing should I try next??
